I completed my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University and am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapist of Ontario. I am Jamaican born, and a proud mother of a wonderful son. I love spending my time with my son in the park, being in nature, hiking, visiting waterfalls, and riding bikes. My motto is, “there is something positive to take out of every struggle we experience in life.” I embrace and encourage change in my clients. I strongly believe that every individual possesses the strength they need to foster the change required for healing.

I presently have over eight years of experience working with children, youth, families, and caregivers who are experiencing developmental disabilities such as autism, ADHD, FASD, and others. I also have experience working with individuals and families experiencing mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, stress, burnout, relationship conflicts and grief.

Through my work with individuals, I adapt a strength base approach where I believe that everyone has the innate ability to foster change. I also believe that each person is different; Therefore, I incorporate different evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Solutions Focused Therapy in my practice. My years of experience with children and families have fostered an “holistic” approach to helping others.

My work with individuals is based on compassion, respect, self-determination, acceptance and most importantly, a strong therapeutic bond.

Everyone faces problems, sometimes they’re small, and sometimes they’re big. Most of the time we can deal with these problems on our own or with a friend, family member, or co-worker. Sometimes, we just don’t seem to be able to work through these issues on our own and that’s when it makes sense to speak with a professional.

I take a generalized approach to helping people deal with their problems with treatment tailored to the specific needs of the individual. Treatment is not a one size fits all and what works for you may not work for another. Using a client-centered approach, I will listen and understand your problem and work towards a solution in a non-judgemental way. I use a combination of CBT, solution focused, and mindfulness-based interventions to achieve desired goals and outcomes. While being able to assist you with any life challenges or issues you may bring to therapy, I specialize in several areas including anxiety, grief & loss, self-esteem, life transitions, relationships & intimacy.

At some point, you may have experienced stress, felt anxious, overwhelmed, sad, or depressed. No one is immune to these common, human conditions. Sometimes, we can work such emotions out on our own by changing our lifestyles, reading books, taking classes, or through talking with friends and family members. Other times, we notice patterns that we haven’t been able to change on our own, or issues start to overwhelm us and negatively affect our lives, relationships, and work.

I hope to create a warm and supportive environment where my clients are encouraged to seek positive change and growth. I’m passionate about de-stigmatizing mental health in minority populations and working with youth minorities/POC. I try to learn from my client’s experiences to develop a better understanding of who they are, and how they developed their worldview. My background combined with life experiences equips me to work with an integrated approach using a person-centered, strength-based focus to help clients overcome emotional distress and behavioural issues. I aim to work collaboratively and understand my clients by using techniques from CBT, emotion-focused, psychodynamic, and mindfulness based therapies. Life has its ebbs and flows, I am here to support and guide you during times of change, along with times of stability. I’m eager to learn more about you and help you achieve balance and empowerment in your life!

A lifelong fascination for the enigmatic canvas of human behaviour and relationships drew me toward the field of psychology. However, an insatiable passion for helping others, rooted in the principle of paying it forward, and my lived experiences have propelled me to embrace psychotherapy professionally. Together, we can tap into the power of compassion, love and acceptance, which can help you overcome adversities and find balance by recognizing the interconnectedness of our lives and world. A trustworthy emotional connection and my humanity form the core of all my relationships, and this is what I bring to you.

I recognize the stigma attached to mental health and diligently work towards eliminating it. As a client-centred, culturally responsive therapist, I will also encourage you to discover your unique inner strength and beauty and gradually find the space where you are being defined and not confined by your sociocultural identity.

Hi, I’m Emily, human and intern psychotherapist. I am currently completing my practicum toward a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychotherapy and I look forward to supporting you in your counselling journey. Thus far I have eight years of experience supporting individuals facing mental health challenges, substance use, and relationship difficulties.

I believe that life is both beautiful and challenging, and that our struggles offer opportunities for growth and self-awareness. While we can’t control everything, we do have the power to choose how we respond. My goal is to help you live in alignment with your true self, so you can embrace a life that feels authentic and meaningful. Together we can explore how past experiences, and unconscious patterns may impact your current struggles. Understanding these dynamics can lead to deeper insight and healing, helping you break free from repetitive patterns and build healthier relationships with yourself and others. My therapeutic approach is eclectic, drawing on various modalities to meet your unique needs. I believe no single approach works for everyone, so I tailor our sessions to be flexible and responsive to your experiences and goals. Central to my approach is a deep respect for you as an individual, and I incorporate humanistic principles like empathy, acceptance, and the belief in your potential for growth. My approach is polyvagal, and attachment theory informed and uses person-centered and psychodynamic interventions. Above all, I see therapy as a partnership, where we work collaboratively to explore your past, present, and future. Together, we’ll uncover the meaning and choices that resonate with you, while also focusing on practical steps toward greater clarity, authenticity, and fulfillment.

I was lucky to find my passion for social work early in life, coming from a family of social workers who specialized in marginalized youth. I decided early on that I too wanted to pursue a career that made a positive impact on the world and helped people to overcome their struggles and create a meaningful and empowered future.

My own personal struggles have provided me with the ability to relate to and to understand my clients. Growing up in a lower-middle class family in Brazil, I faced many obstacles in a country facing social-political instability. I immigrated to Canada in 2003, and as a newcomer, I experienced many hurdles due to a lack of skills and language barriers, working in an array of survival jobs without family support in Canada. Fortunately, I was able to benefit from professional counselling services to address these issues so that I could continue to pursue my passions.

Overcoming my own personal struggles solidified my desire and passion for social work. I consider it a privilege to work with others coping with similar difficulties in their lives, and guiding them in their journey of overcoming their own struggles.

I have obtained a bachelor of Social Work from Ryerson University, and a Master of Social Work from the University of Toronto, with a specialization in mental health. This education has provided me with the tools and techniques to tailor my counselling approach to my client’s unique needs. I have benefited from many diverse work opportunities that have further refined my skills. Specifically, I have much experience assisting the elderly, the LGBTQ+ community, and those experiencing mental health issues related to anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions. I offer counselling services in Portuguese, Spanish, and English. I feel fortunate to now apply my skills to work alongside the other great counsellors at Lifecycle Counselling.

It is inevitable that we will face problems, whether they are small or big. These problems are usually something we can resolve on our own or with the help of a friend, family member, or co-worker. Some issues are just too complicated for us to handle on our own, and that’s when a professional can help.

My approach to achieving desired goals and outcomes incorporates CBT, people-centred interventions, solution-focused interventions, and mindfulness practices.

I became a therapist because, just like you, I am human and have had my fair share of battles. It took a long time for me to get to where I am today. I recognize that in moments of hopelessness, it is hard to find determination, that depression can be scary, that anxiety can be overwhelming, and that traumatic experiences can leave one feeling emotionally exhausted and drained out.

I acknowledge the stigma associated with mental health and in going to therapy. For this reason, I know how crucial it is to provide therapy that is client-centered, empathetic, and unique to each person’s needs.

It would be a privilege to accompany you on your journey. Whether your journey is one about self-discovery and exploration, or about developing tools to manage challenges and healing, I can help. Sometimes, you need s safe place a place where you can share and be vulnerable, a place where you can sort through your thoughts, a place where you can learn to express emotion, and a place that allows you to work towards growth and empowerment.

Having been a client first, and a therapist later, the process towards healing and growth can be a rewarding experience for both, the client and the therapist. My goal is to make you feel heard and valued.
